The Chip kick is an exciting attacking weapon and is often used when the defending team has positioned their fullback deep and are not using their scrumhalf as a sweeper.

KEY FACTORS

Check to see that the defender is not too close that they are able to charge down the kick
Body to be in 45 degree angle to direction of kick
Lay the ball in same hand as kicking foot, not against the palm but towards the fingers
Non kicking foot’s hand supports the ball
Non kicking foot points towards the direction you are kicking the ball
Work the power under the ball and up towards the top of the ball
Do not follow through with your kicking leg
Kicking leg travels up not forward
Rather Kick too high than too low
